Launch of the SBF Global Sourcing Hub

Officiated by Guest of Honour, Mr. Lim Hng Kiang, Minister for Trade and Industry, the SBF Global Sourcing Hub was launched on 13 Jan 2006, together with Abecha’s CEO, Mr Ong Teck Soon, Singapore Business Federation (SBF) Chairman, Mr Stephen Lee, Chief Executive of SPRING Singapore, Mr Loh Khum Yean and Executive Director of Infocredit D&B (Singapore) Mr William Lim.

The SBF Global Sourcing Hub is an online integrated sourcing system to help Buyers in Singapore automate and streamline their sourcing processes for better efficiency, by connecting Buyers and Suppliers across the industry platform. This initiative was jointly developed by SBF and Abecha, and supported by SPRING Singapore.

Following months of preparation, the launch was timed in conjunction with SBF’s Forum: Generating Business Opportunities that brought together some 380 participants from the Singapore business community. It was a clear sign of keen interest as participants viewed a flash demo of the SBF Global Sourcing Hub and listened intently to speeches by the Minister, Stephen Lee and an A-Z Presentation on this portal by Ong Teck Soon.

With the launch of the SBF Global Sourcing Hub, companies will now have “instant access to global business opportunities”, as the tagline suggested. This online web portal will bring on efficiencies to enhance productivities in sourcing and procurement processes.

Speaking to audience at the launch, Mr Lim said, “the SBF Global Sourcing Hub will serve as an eMarketplace to bring about significant benefits to both buyers and sellers.”  Mr Lim is pleased to learn that several buying organizations such as ST Electronics, Jurong Port and Ho Bee Print will be leveraging on this hub for their procurement needs. “I encourage all of you to be part of this new and global marketplace”, he added.

On hand to give the participants an insight into the functionalities and features of this portal is Mr Ong Teck Soon, CEO of Abecha Pte Ltd. The A-Z presentation included the hub’s vision, mission, value propositions to both Buyers and Suppliers, and ended with a short demo of the system.

It was a successful launch judging by the turnout at the forum comprising SBF members, invited guest by Abecha, SPRING and other partners. During the coffee break, lots of participants swarmed the Abecha’s booth with more queries about the hub’s services, functions and expressed keen interest to sign up as Buyers or Suppliers.
